The next day I went with my floor advisor and 2 other girls to the movie festival at Vancouver. We went to the movie: The Riot Club. It was a very interesting movie and we discussed it a bit during our trip back to UBC. In the afternoon I tried to study.
Monday and Tuesday I went to my lectures and studied. On Tuesday evening I had dinner with Erika and Grete. We made a salad with tofu, sweet potato and avocado (delicious!) and we had some good fried egg plant and courgette. I enjoyed my evening with them!
On Wednesday after my lectures I went to the airport to pick up my parents! They picked up their car and we drove to their overnight place. It was a beautiful house nearby campus. In the afternoon I gave my parents a small tour around campus. We had dinner at Burgoo. A really nice restaurant that my roommate Esther had advised.
The next morning we drove off to Vashon Island nearby Seattle. On this Island lives the sister of a friend my father knows for a really long time. It took a while to get through the Duane, but at about half past 3 we arrived at Sue Ellen’s place (the sister of that friend of my father). She lived in a house that she made totally by herself! It wasn’t finished jet , but you could see it should become very nice! On the Island was a lot of nature and a lot of deer. At Sue Ellen’s place we tried to reserve a bed and breakfast to stay for two nights. We reserved a cute little cottage at Burton on the Island. We had a nice view on the see/lake. That night we had dinner at a nice Thai place. The food varied from very good to not liking it at all. But that was just my taste! It’s not something I eat that often, but I enjoyed my evening.
On Friday we met up with Sue Ellen again and took a tour around the Island. We walked to a small fire house and through a nice park, spotted some deer, picked up some apples, went to a distillery and a winery, tasted wine, vodka, liquor and gin, went shopping and got groceries for a pizza for dinner. So it was a long busy day with a lot of fun things. The people on the Island are very typical but also very nice. When we went back to our cottage, we found out that my dad lost the key. So they had to get a new one. When we finally got in the cottage my dad found his key again! Nice..
Saturday we went to the Cider Fest on the Island. It was a small Farmers market where they also pressed the apples for the cider. They had a lot of different things to see. We went for some coffee and pumpkin pie and shopped a bit. After a lunch at the Hardware store we got on the ferry back to Seattle. In Seattle we first went to our motel to drop our things and then went to the Pike Place Market. A market with everything a regular market has to offer. We walked a bit through down town and shopped a bit. I got a new coat for the winter and some other nice clothes! We then went to look for a place to eat. It was more difficult than expected and we ended up in a restaurant at the Pike Place Market. It was okay, but the ambiance wasn’t that great.
Today we went to all the different neighbourhoods of Seattle. We started at the Pioneer Square. The old piece of Seattle. Because of a big even today (something with Football) we couldn’t park that easily so we drove further to Seattle Centre. There we got a ticket to get up the Space Needle, but before that we walked a bit around the Centre. There were a lot of things to see, especially for kids. When we got up the Space Needle we had a great view over Seattle. The next area that we went to was Fremont. A hippy area with a lot of shops and restaurants. The shops were very interesting but also fun to watch. We lunched at a small Italian place and after that we went to Ballard, another neighbourhood. It was also a new, hip area, but a bit more fancier than Fremont. We walked through Ballard Avenue and there were a lot of different restaurants, definitely a possibility to eat somewhere tonight!
At the moment we are relaxing a bit at our motel and at about 7pm we go back to Ballard Avenue to get some dinner. Tomorrow we are going to Lynden. Apparently it is a very Dutch place, even more Dutch then Volendam… We’ll see and I’ll let you know! It is also Thanksgiving in Vancouver tomorrow, so we’ll have a nice turkey dinner!
